The name Siem Reap literally means “Siam Defeated”. It was because of the victory over the Thais which King Ang Chan (1516-1566) counter-attacked, shot Prince Ong dead on an elephant’s back, and routed the Thais and captured no less than 10,000 Thai troops. Siem Reap is best known as the gateway to the incredible ancient temple complex of Angkor Wat and the remains of the Khmer Empire’s former capital.

Angkor is rightly considered to be one of the world’s most spectacular and important historic areas, and is featured on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. Some 400 square kilometers of land is included in the region, from forested areas to the Angkor Archaeological Park, where the temple of Angkor Wat and the Bayon Temple can be found.

Today, Siem Reap is a popular tourist destination which has a large number of hotels and restaurants. Siem Reap also boasts several vibrant night markets, where souvenirs like silk scarves and wood carvings can be purchased.

Overview

DAY 1: ARRIVAL / SIEM REAP ANGKOR SIGHTSEEING  (L/D)

Arrive in Siem Reap at the airport, meet & transfer to hotel, check-in. Lunch at local restaurant, In the afternoon, explore to the kingdom of Angkor by visiting the last capital of Khmer Empire, Angkor Thom via the South Gate, the giant stone faces city temple of Bayon, Baphoun, Phimeanakas, the Royal Palace, the Elephant Terrace and the Leper King Terrace. In the late afternoon, we climb up to the top of Phnom Bakheng for sunset view over Angkor Area.  Dinner at local restaurant, overnight at hotel in Siem Reap.

DAY 2: SIEM REAP ANGKOR SIGHTSEEING (B/L/D)

In the early morning, watch sunrise in the front of Angkor Wat and move around to see this huge monument before the crowd. Return to the hotel for breakfast. After a short rest, we continue to explore the most dedicated beauty of the Khmer temple carvings of Bantey Srei in the 11th century. Lunch at local restaurant, in the afternoon, visit a jungle temple where the movie TOMB RAIDER was shot “Ta Prohm temple”.  Enjoy dinner at local restaurant and overnight in Siem Reap.

DAY 3: SIEM REAP / FLOATING VILLAGE (B/L/D)

After breakfast at hotel in the morning, visit Roluos Group temple, including Preah Ko and Bakong. Then move to visit Kampong Phluk floating village and stilted house where you can see floating houses on the water and on the stilt between 6-8metters.  It’s on the largest fresh water lake in South East Asia, Tonlé Sap, which is a fishing community, floating market, and it has many varieties of fresh water fish and other resources of the lake. Enjoy lunch at local restaurant. In the afternoon, return back to city, you will experience Wat Thmei shrine “Killing field”. Continue to the Les Artisans d’Angkor Handicraft workshop and explore the city or go shopping at local markets. Dinner at local restaurant and Overnight in Siem Reap.

DAY 4: SIEM REAP / KAMPONG THOM / PHNOM PENH  (B/L/D)

In the morning, depart for Phnom Penh, with 314km, on the way stop at Kampong Kdei bridge which was the Angkorian Bridge along the ancient high way from Angkor to Wat Pho located in Laos today. Arriving at Kampong Thom province before noon, visit Sambor Prei Kuk which was the capital lasted back to 7 century of the Khmer.  Enjoy lunch at Tourism- Foods Association near the temple. Continue to Skun village where the villagers sell spider (tarantula) and crickets. Arrive Phnom Penh in the afternoon time, transfer to the hotel, check-in.

In the late afternoon, visit Wat Phnom where the history of Phnom Penh started. At the evening, have a nice walk along the river where you can enjoy a beautiful sunset.  Dinner at Bopha Phnom Penh restaurant, Overnight in Phnom Penh.

DAY 5: PHNOM PENH SIGHTSEEING  (B/L/D)

In the morning,take sightseeing to the most remarkable sites of Phnom Penh including, Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda, and National museum. Enjoy lunch at local restaurant. In the afternoon, visit Genocide Museum Tuol Sleng (former prison during Khmer rouge rule on 1975-1978). Move to Killing Field Choeung Ek where prisoner is transferred for execution. Dinner at local restaurant, Overnight in Phnom Penh.

DAY 6: PHNOM PENH / DEPARTURE  (B/L)

In the morning enjoy shopping or exploration the city at Russian Market and Central market till transfer to airport for departure flight for the next destination. End of services!
